| Day 1 - Little Sabine to Ft. Mcree | ||||||||
| ...the remains
of Battery 233 which was built around 1942. We found that the
remains of the original Ft. McRee are now underwater and require a snorkel
and mask to explore. Lacking a flashlight, we were content to
explore the concrete structures externally. The anchorage was first rate, with 10 feet of water and a very short dinghy ride to the shore. Be prepared to hear the "sound of freedom" as we often saw and heard training jets from NAS Pensacola. NAS Pensacola is the "Cradle of Naval Aviation" where all Naval Aviators begin their training and is home to the Blue Angels. As we were peacefully swinging on the hook in our private anchorage, we reflected on our journey and explorations. We truly enjoyed our first day and evening. Below are pictures and comments from our first day's adventure (moving your mouse over the thumbnails tells our story): |
